We look at how it affects the veterinary industry.
Most people want to provide the best health care available to all members of their family, including their pets. Sometimes treatment options can be too expensive and in lean economic times, tough choices have to made. This scenario leaves pet owners and veterinarians alike, feeling helpless. Pet insurance options can be beneficial all the way around, for the pet, because he'she recieves proper health treatment, for the loving owners, because they can provide the care they want to provide, and for the veterinarian, because veterinarians want to help animals live a happy and healthy life.
One of the ways to help with the financial aspect of veterinary care is pet insurance. While we don't endorse any one pet insurance company over another, we do wish to help raise awareness about a pet care solution that many people may be unaware of, but may be beneficial to many of our clients.
Our experiences with the pet insurance companies we have dealt with have in general been positive. As with all insurance plans, there are many different options and levels of care associated with each of the various plans. Along with those options and plans comes a range of costs.
Generally pet insurance works on a reimbursement method. The pet owner pays the vet for the treatment at the time service is provided, then the pet owner is tasked with filling out the insurance paperwork and sending (submitting it) to the insurance provider. Oftentimes, the veterinarian can help or assist in the completion of the documents. Once the pet insurance provider receives the submission, it is processed and then, you (the pet owner) will be reimbursed.
We've placed a few links to various pet insurance providers at the end of this article. Take your time looking over the sitesand be sure to do some of your own research. What we have found is that $25-$50 a month will provide the type of coverage that allows you to give your pet(s) above average standard of care. Many of the policies cover preventive and wellness procedures. Just like you and I, your pet can benfit from preventive care. The old saying, “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”, appies just as much to pets as it does to people (and even machines). In the event of illness or injury you are allowed to make treatment decisions based on what is the best for your pet and not what is best for your bottom line.
